Ant Control in Mandeville

Palus Property Defense — Ant Control Information for Mandeville

Ants in a Mandeville kitchen are rarely a kitchen problem. The colony is almost always outside — under a slab edge, in a mulch bed against the foundation, inside a landscape timber, or beneath a stepping stone — and the trail you're watching on the counter is the last few feet of a much longer route. That's why the spray under the sink never holds. Treat the trail and you kill the scouts; treat the nest and the trail dries up on its own.

Identifying what you actually have

The species matters more than most people expect, because the products and placement differ. Argentine ants move in broad, persistent trails along foundation lines, hose bibs and weep holes, and they get worse after heavy rain pushes them up out of saturated soil — a familiar pattern on the north shore in summer. Fire ants build mounds in turf and flower beds and are a yard problem first, a doorway problem second. Carpenter ants are the ones worth taking seriously: large, often active at night, and usually tied to wood that has stayed wet, so a fascia board under a leaking gutter, a window sill, or a sill plate over a damp crawl space. Finding carpenter ants means looking for the moisture source, not just the insects. Tiny ants trailing to a sticky spill on the counter are a different animal again and respond to bait where a repellent spray would only scatter them into the walls.

How the work is done

An inspection comes first: we walk the perimeter, check the foundation line, mulch, downspout splash zones, tree limbs touching the roof, utility penetrations and the interior trails you've seen. Treatment usually combines a non-repellent exterior barrier at the foundation and entry points with targeted bait where the ants are feeding, so workers carry the material back and the colony collapses rather than relocating. Indoors, the work is placement-driven — cracks, voids, under appliances, plumbing penetrations — not broadcast spraying over surfaces you cook on. Expect honest talk about what you need to fix on your end, too: a mulch bed piled against siding, a sprinkler soaking one wall, or a pet bowl left out will undo good work.

Done badly, ant treatment makes things worse. Repellent products applied to an Argentine ant trail can cause the colony to bud into several smaller ones, and you end up with trails in three rooms instead of one. Baiting with the wrong formulation — sweet bait for a colony currently foraging protein, for example — gets ignored entirely. And treating carpenter ants without addressing the wet wood just buys a few months.

Scheduling and cost

Price depends on the size of the structure and how much perimeter there is to treat, the species, whether the yard needs mound work, and whether you need a one-time knockdown or recurring service through the warm months, which is when pressure here is highest. Estimates are free, so there's no cost to having someone look before you decide.

Palus Property Defense is licensed and insured, works with licensed contractors, and backs the work with a satisfaction guarantee. We serve Mandeville, Madisonville, Abita Springs and Baker, take several payment methods, and can often get out the same day. Enquiries are by phone only — call Monday through Friday, 8AM to 6PM, and describe where you're seeing the ants and what time of day; that alone narrows down what we're dealing with.
